Interesting field - close to far

Recommended Posts

Had a look at this last night following a suggestion on the Cloudy Nights board.  In addition to the large galaxy NGC4725 at about 40 MLY, the red crosshairs point to dwarf planet Makemake, just next door in our own Kuiper Belt at 6.8 billion km (0.0007 LY), and (thanks to the dean of the ultra deep, Martin, for pointing this out) the blue crosshairs indicate a mag 19.5 quasar at redshift z=1.9 (comoving LOS distance ~18 BLY).  So however you want to think about the "distance" to that QSO, easily 12 orders of magnitude in distance in one frame.

Brilliant result !  Did NGC 4725 last night and gx rubbish in the long late twilight but seem to have captured Makemake a little south of your position which would seem correct for ephemeris site http://theskylive.com/makemake-tracker
