Alternative radio source for meteor detection

Recommended Posts

As a result of checking out the BAA Radio Astronomy Section's web page, I came across a paper by David Morgan on the use of aircraft radio location beacons as alternative sources of radio waves, besides BRAMS and GRAVES, for the detection of meteors. If it could be made to work then it should detect local meteor arrivals. See http://www.britastro.org/radio/downloads/A-PRELIMINARY-NOTE-ON-DETECTION-OF-AIRCRAFT-VOR-NAVIGATION-BEACONS.pdf

Has anyone here tried?

Ian

As a radio ham during the summer Sporadic E season I used to listen for VOR beacons around the EU.

They certainly can be heard via Es so I would thought that they could also be heard via MS.
Never tried it so cannot be sure.
