iOptron ZEQ25GT - Problem not Switching on

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with my iOptron ZEQ25GT mount. When switching it on the mount the Go2Nova 8408 Hand Controller does not start nor does is there a beeping noise.

However the red light top of the mount does come on and the Polar alignment scope reticle also displays it's red light, so it would seem that mount circuit board has power.

Is there any suggestions as to how to diagnose and troubleshoot the issue?

I have tried re-seating the ribbon cable in the controller connecting the controller circuit board to the LCD display but had no luck. The real issue is that I am not able to determine which component has failed.

First try to connect the cable reversed and check if anything changed. If not, try a new or self made cable next. They are easy to make with modular 6-pole connectors, 6-lead flat cable and a cheap plastic tool to mount the connectors to the cable. Be sure to mount them in the same way, you can determine that by looking at the colours of the wires and their position in the plugs: when they are in the same place in the plug they are straight or  in the opposite place then they are crossed. I trhink they will be straight, so exactly in the same position in both plugs. Making it yourself is a lot cheaper and faster then buying one... (and more fun...) All the parts are available at electronic part shops. Now you know if your cable is ok or not...

Next step would be to check the jacks on the boards of the mount and the HC. You will have to open both for that. Sometimes the soldering is not very well done, and the printconnectors get loose. If everything is ok, there must be something wrong with the electronics

B.t.w.  Inside the handcontroller is a little button cell battery probably CR2012. That may cause a problem too, if it is totally empty and maybe leaking...
take all screws out and you will see it in the top left corner. It is cheap, so replace it wether it is leaking or not. That may fix the problem.

If all of the above does not work, you could go back to the company you bought it from, to check your HC on a new mount. That will tell wether it is the HC or the mainboard... (of course you could have done that right away, too... bring your cable as well!)

I hope this helped a bit.

Good luck!

Thanks  Waldemar. After emails with iOptron support who were very helpful and suggested several investigations we determined it was probably an issue with the Go2Nova 8408 Hand Controller.  iOptron confirmed that AltairAstro was there agent in the UK. I contacted AltairAstro and sent them the mount + Hand Controller. They checked and confirmed that it was a defective Hand Controller and have now sent me a new Hand Controller. So all is resolved.

I have decided to sell my Cem-120 mount as i got a second hand AP 1100 GTO from my friend who got a new AP 1600 with encoders
its just under a year old bought from Altair Astro so still under two year warranty is in mint cont i couldn't miss the opportunity to get
AP 1100 GTO and let it go still waiting for pier plate for mount.
So theirs no point in keeping two large mounts after i got my dream final mount buyer will pay shipping price is 2150 pounds.
Altair Astro price without Ipolar Camera is 3250 pounds without Ipolar Camera which is 200 pounds total 3450 pounds

I am going to buy Skywatcher EQ5 Pro Go-To mount. But, unfortunately, I am low on budget.
So, does someone know where can I buy the cheapest EQ5 pro mount?
Yesterday there was a low price for it (350 €), but they changed it.
      Thank you for your time!

      SOLD
Skywatcher HEQ5PRO Tripod and Extension pillar.
There are a few marks on the tripod legs but not really noticable, the eyepioece/spreader tray has paint flaking off
But could be cleaned and repainted, it didnt bother me, but I am lazy.
I am selling as its not getting used as it should be and I find I use the excuse that it takes to long to carry it out
and setup, but in reality I think I am just losing interest.
As it is a heavy object collection from TS25 (Hartlepool) is preferred.
But if a courier collection service is available buyer pays the costs and arranges pickup I am happy as long as money has been transfered. Also I am prepared to travel a reasonable distance to meet for exchange.
Price £400 ONO I will not split

Hi to everyone, I used to do some astrophotography in the past with a Celestron AVX and DSLR but after few month had to give up for several reasons, including light pollution (I'm living in zone 3 east London), and also working shifts. Now I want to start again, and this time more serious. I've been searching around for a couple of months to choose all the gear and I'm quite happy with the list so far although it's a bit over the price I planned at first.
I will get an William optics Z73 with his 50mm guide scope, a flattener/reducer 0.8, light pollution filter IDAS D2 and as camera I will use a Canon 600D modded and I will buy a ZWO 183MC Pro, after so much research, I'm very happy with the scale and framing I will get with this combo, but I'm starting to get confused with the mount.
My first idea was to go for an HEQ5 Pro, as my previous experience with the AVX has been awful, then I realized that the FLO, sells that mount with belt modification and also some cleaning and tuning if required, I heard that it's a big improvement over the stock one and the price it's ok, but another important factor for me it's portability. Unfortunately, my garden doesn't allow me to do much so I will need to carry around on trolley, for a km walk, I'm a strong person and been doing plenty of time with the AVX, so my confusion came recently when the iOptron mounts entered my radar. I start comparing the heq5 pro with belt, with the iOptron cem25EC and the CEM40 without encoders, and I'm so unsure of which to buy, the cem25 seem to be the equivalent of heq5 at least speaking of payload, but in some threads I read people saying it's a bit fragile so kind of remove it from the equation although the weight it's interesting for my situation, then the cem40, seem to be quite similar on weight to the heq5 but with higher payload and that's interesting too as I will buy a C11 at some point.
Now it will all come down to the accuracy of tracking I guess, how the heq5 and cem40 would compare on tracking and guiding? If the cem40 it's better, I would probably go with that since it holds more and would last longer as I don't plan to get anything bigger than a C11, but if the skywatcher it's better, I could decide to go for that, and when I move to a place with better garden then get a second mount with higher payload.
Apologise for the long post and my english.
      Kind Regards,
      Giovanni.

Hi guys, it's my first post here, so Hello!
My synscan goto upgrade started to act like in this video of mine SynScan GOTO Skipping after being disassembled for few weeks in the closet. There were no such problems before.
When it slews at rates above x3 everything is fine and smooth but as soon as it starts tracking at x3, it skips steps or something like that.
My setup is eq3-2 on alu and SW 150/750 with Canon 700D attached.
Thanks in advance for any clues or ideas!
