Alan White

Hello from Essex UK

Recommended Posts

Hello

Thought as I had just signed up, having read from the sidelines for the last month, that I should say hi.

Just getting a slow burn into astronomy after a childhood interest and a dabble in 1997 after Halle Bopp.

Have a pair of 8x40 Swift Plover binos and some books.

Have  a rusty rather than trusty Bressar 80mm Quasar refractor that may be junk having festered in the loft for 17 years!

Clear sky's and look forward to pestering the life out of you on my new journey.

Hi Alan. Welcome. I grew up in Theydon Bois where they had no street-lighting. Now I live in the Midlands and wish I had appreciated the village more!

Welcome!

People do say that a pair of binoculars is the best starting point to get to know the sky. I think they are right.

Hi and welcome. Enjoy the forum. Dust off your old scope and give it a go. Been a refractor it could still be OK as long as the lenses are not damaged or too dirty. :)

Hi Alan. Always a pleasure to meet a fellow Essex bod. Reckon your old scope will be OK once you've blown off the cobwebs!

Hi Alan and a big hello from another newbie from down at the end of the world where the sky's are cloudy and the ground always wet.

Welcome to the SQL!

It's often said that binos are the best place to start.

Greetings, Alan, and welcome to SGL - it's great you've joined us!

Don't toss out the Bresser - it might turn out to be a gold-mine!

Goodness me, that's a very warm welcome.

Binoculars will help me rediscover the skies.

The scope is full of grot, having lost its rear cap from the focuser, the German mount has rusted and its all a bit of a mess. I will strip any clean everything, but I often fail at reassembly!

Just need a clear sky.

Take your time to acclimate to the many forums, Alan. Then we can help you bring the 17 year-old scope back to life - if you wish. I looked it up - and sorry to say - it's not a goldmine, but it's not trash either. A bit of dirt and debris and rust? No problem!

Enjoy!

Good to have you on board Alan - I'd just like to second Dave's advice above - don't be in a rush to spend money - that will happen soon enough. often in obscene amounts when you get hooked.  Have fun.
