Heads up - Ganymede visible centre disk, 9.40pm 5th May

Quick heads up, I was preparing for the arrival of the GRS, and having an early look at Jupiter through quite hazy conditions, and I spotted Ganymede very clearly on the disk. Its albedo is lower than Io or Europa, similar to Callisto I think, so it shows up looking very similar to a shadow transit. It is visible over the white of the Northern Temperate Zone (I think I'm right in that!!) Go have a look!

Certainly worth a view.

Set up a little while ago and using low power could only spot three of the quartet and wondered if the other was behind but higher mag revealed it crossing the disc. A good one for the imagers with the grs in a good position.

Cracking views now when the seeing steadies, which it is doing quite frequently. Hazy at times, but lovely when that clears. GRS is showing very nicely coming onto the disk, I have about another 25 mins before I need to head up the stairs to bedfordshire ?

Believe it or not the sky is clear here tonight and the seeing is not too bad. I left the frac up after my solar session and managed to catch the disc of Ganymede in transit. Thanks for the heads up Stu. Later when hopefully the sky is a little darker I will have a look for galaxies in Leo.

Got it too. Nice little browny greyish disc with the GRS. Atmosphere pretty stable. 200x was nice and comfortable.

Lovely solar session in the warm during the day. Great Mars & Saturn first thing.

Picking up a new scope on Saturday.

Most satisfying!

Paul
