Galaxy feast! Coma Supercluster & friends (Star71)

Recommended Posts

It has taken me ages to annotate this jobbie, and I could have kept going all night but I got to 440 and decided that was enough! There simply isnt enough room on the image to stick a label on everything.... there is easily 600+ in this image.

Included are the galaxies part of the main cluster, as well as some more obscure ones that go right down to mag 20. Keeping the designations short was a need, otherwise the screen would have been way too cluttered. Fortunately, a lot of these galaxies have multiple designations so I chose the shortest one for most of them.

As with my Virgo SC, I will also list the galaxies detected and present it as a table. All annotations are correct and have been cross-referenced with the SIMBAD database, if there was any uncertainty - I didnt include it as im not going to say ive detected something when I havent.... and even then it has to be clearly visible - not a dim pixels worth (that does not qualify as detected in my opinion). Im not in the habit of doing bad science ;)

Well done Rob!

Going deep from a light polluted sky is not a challenge for the feint-hearted!

I'm currently on a fools errand to capture the Ghost nebula from my suburban skies - and it's just hazed over... ;) Still, every good sub is one more to the stack!

Yep I know what you mean.... I had a go at the laughing skull nebula last night (an IFN type neb), and its was very hard going.... I had to throttle that one to death to get anything out of it. It needs either a serious amout of exposure, or a properly dark sky - preferably both!

Wow  .Very good . A lot of work must have gone into putting all that together.

Cheers :)

Yes, the annotation actually took longer than the capture and processing time combined!

Thanks Jamie, Its looking clear tonight so there might be something else incoming soon - though it will be the last for a few days as there are only so many late sessions i can handle! :) (need a proper nights sleep)
