Stub Mandrel
Visited a mate who has a small engineering business today. He has a mini-skip for swarf etc - sticking out of it was Jessops newtonian reflector, about 5" tube but I think its a 75-90mm mirror. "It was my grandson's and under the stairs for years, it appeared in the skip yesterday, you're welcome to it." With an alt-az yoke, pretty simple construction and 'Jessops;' written on the side I don't expect miracles but hey, who's complaining?

Stub Mandrel
LOL! The tube is so big I'm wondering if I could find a 90 or 100mm mirror of same or shorter focal length and fit it. there's one on ebay at eth moment at £9.00.. it has a tripod and a spare eyepiece too! astronymonkey
I like a good skip find and a telescope sounds like a good one. I often have a look at the local tip too and have blagged a few bargins over the years including a new fire for the front room, an aluminum caravan step, a trailer which cost me £10, and a kern tripod for a theodolite which cost £2.50 ....... and countless pallets for my woodburner ! Happy hunting, cheers
