Lunar images from the 17th March

Recommended Posts

The Moon was nicely placed on the 17th so I took the opportunity to grab a few captures of our nearest neighbor under reasonably steady conditions for once. All taken with the 12" LX200acf and ASI174mm camera working at around F30. Pleased to get something worthy of posting as it's been some time since I have posted in this section.

Hope you like them.

Those are just wonderful Pete. Lovely detail and crisp features. Some of the best lunar images I have seen for quite some time, way to go.

What resolution was you at with the camera. would assume full resolution. Can you remember the frames per sec and exposure. I really need a bigger chip.

Hard to get big mosaics  at 640x480

Many thanks Neil. Yes I was using full resolution (1936 x 1216) for these shots. The ASI174mm is a great camera for Lunar and Solar work due to this large chip size. I was capturing at 124fps and exposure was around 6.8ms although the file size is huge, a 60s AVI is approx 16Gb at this resolution!!!

Still not the best seeing but better than the usual fuzz we've had so much of this year.

No I agree, I think I may have been shooting at a higher focal length, and the image is quite disturbed on screen. In hindsight I probably should have come down more.

Your balance here is wonderful, top notch

I particularly like the bottom image
