Sky Safari download fail

Recommended Posts

Just been trying to download Sky Safari 5 Pro to iPhone 6 plus.

Purchased OK  but if I tap on it I get a circle going round continuously and it says downloading but nothing happens after half an hour.

Did get an icon for it with "waiting" under it but this has now disappeared.

Any ideas welcome.

Only just got this phone so not a clue how downloads should work :)

I assume you are on WiFi Dave? What's your connection speed like? It's a chunky old app so can take some time on a slow connection.

Virgin hub claims to be 50Mbs and 5G and phone 4G don't know how that equates.

Well you should have no problems with that. Not sure what to suggest ?

Maybe reboot the phone again, and see how it goes. Or even reboot the Wifi router, just in case there is an issue there.

You could use the Speedtest app to check you are getting good connection from the phone?

Rebooted phone and hub and hey presto it downloaded and installed, took about 3 minutes in the end.

Thanks guys, damn computers (and phones )

Dave

Just got to figure out how it works now :)

Glad you got it sorted out. Skysafari is an awesome app to have. I'm still discovering little gems in it even though I've had mine for 4 months now. :)

Been reading how it can control a mount by WiFi, hoping to get 10Micron GM1000HPS soon so getting them to talk to each other should be good for a laugh.

That feature is brilliant when you get it up and running. I used it with my AZEQ6 via a Nexus and it was fantastic.

Hi , hope you are enjoying some astronomy. I am out with my gear for the first proper session since the star SGL11 weekend. I brought the skyfi and down loaded Safari5 pro. I have been playing with the skysafari pro and thought I was ready for go. How wrong can you be. So I need a little help if you can spare me 5 mins. I polar aligned my mount using eqmod and then put the mount in park. I then attached the skyfi and connected. So far so good. Now the skifi shows the scope below the horizon not where it really is. When I ask it to go to to a star its Miles out and says the scope is too far away from the intended object to align. If I follow the instructions for aligning the scope to safari I get no where. Then I find that if I unlock the scope and place the scope on a star. Then align in EP and press align it works. Could you just tell me your work method from polar alignment to safari alignment. Other than that its very nice but I need to know that DSO are where the scope is pointing.  Jay

Bit late coming to the thread. Glad to hear you sorted it Dave. From my experience there is an option in your phone that stops you downloading large files so as not to use all your mobile data. If you were connected to your WIFI it shouldn't have made any difference unless your phone hadn't properly connected that is and it thought you were attempting your download via mobile data ??
