In t the fantastic video by astronomy and nature tv on YouTube on using the planispere he has a huge one. So they must exist.

The one in the Astronomy and Nature Centre was a one off , custom made by Ralph ( a signwriter when he wasn't dishing out great advice at weekends )

Patrick Moore's giant planisphere was made especially for the programme, commissioned by Nancy Thomas (the programme director), and perhaps actually constructed by designers Patricia Cullen and David Hardy. An Austrian mathematician living in London also supplied astronomical models.

So far as I know, no one produces a large commercial version.

It's a great idea but the one Sir PM is using is not of high resolution in the cartography so it was probably made by scaling up a small one. It would be nice to have a large one with high resolution cartography.

A project for FLO! An attractive wall mounted large planisphere with suitable lashings of wood and brass...

Funny thing! My new planispehere arrived just today in the mail, sorry...post. It is 16 inches in diameter. I wanted it for some outreach that we, our local club does at the various local schools.

How about this one?

81x81cm planisphere

Thanks for posting , haven't seen this one before.

After deducting the border background the actual planisphere looks to be "about" 60 cm in diameter ?

Its nice, but not nice at that price, ouch !

The actual starfield is 58cm diameter. And yeah, it is a bit pricey for what is in effect a couple of sheets of plastic with printing on them :icon_rolleyes:

Where are you Ralph ?  You may have a niche market here.
