Eyepiece Holder/Mirrors?

Hello SGL,

I was wondering where I can get an eyepiece holder, Or if it is possible to make one? Because I'm planning on building my own newtonian reflector.

I also have a problem choosing what mirror to buy. People it should be concave, but videos of telescope making show them just flat. will this do?

And finally, the diagonal mirror, where do I get these? do I have to make them?

Cannot make out what the mirror yopu show is but at 9.90 SF it is not a 300mm mirror for a reflector/newtonian.

Newtonian mirrors are concave - they have to focus the incoming light to a point/image.

This group sell mirrors for a reflector Hubble and the cost of a 30mm diameter item is $850 (US$), there will be shipping and whatever Swiss taxes on top.

Often whoever you purchase the primary from will sell or supply the secondary.

Used to be Galvoptics in the UK that produced mirrors but they have changed the items they supply and the mirrors have disappeared, they may return but at this time nothing is advertised.

The mirror - primary - will need to be parabolic also.

If the idea is to buy the items and build one yourself you will not save money unless the final scope is fairly large. The mass produced items can simply be mass poduced and until it scope is rated in the "specialist" sizes they can turn them out at less expense then you can put all the bits together. You will need a mirror cell to house the mirror and these are also fairly costly.

For components look at the TS site, they have mirrors - primary and secondary - and mirror cells. Will leave you to track down the component bits.

Thanks for the advice! It does seem that building one myself is going to cost way more than buying one....

Oh well, I'll stick with my current scope then :/ I thought it was going to be like building my own pc

Mirrors are still available from Image optics/Galvoptics, at least according to their web site.

They operate two companies from their premises in Basildon. the mirrors are listed on their Image Optics site:

http://www.image-optics.fsnet.co.uk/

I can't understand why they choose to operate separately as the products from both overlap, but they have been doing this for the last 20 years to my knowledge.

Nigel

P.S. Scrub the above. Just re-checking the image optics web site I see that they are only offering the glass blanks, not finished mirrors.

Apologies
