Beginning to see detail on Mars?

I set up my 100 refractor but after a frustrating evening yesterday when cloud stopped my Jupiter plans, I got up this morning to try Mars. At around 6.00 it was clear but slightly hazy and seeing seemed very stable. Mars is a slightly larger disc now and also took some magnification. I am sure that I could just see darker areas and the brighter polar cap. Having checked the view in Starry Night, what I saw roughly equates. Did anyone else give it a go? Unfortunately Saturn is just in the wrong place in relation to my garage roof (demolition needed!) or I am sure that it too would have benefited from the steady seeing.

Looking forward to these two planets improving in the next few weeks.

Hi Kerry, I had big plans for a 9 to 10pm Sunday night viewing of the GRS but was foiled by those same clouds as you.

Looking at Mars around 6am last week, I was sure I was picking up a polar cap.  Just so darn low in the sky it's a real shame.

Keep looking up!
