Maksutov 127/1500

I agree with John, I have used UHC/OIII/H-beta in all my scopes from 80mm to 200mm. The key is to use relatively larger exit pupils (=lower magnifications). I saw Veil nebula in my backyard, using UHC/OIII with 32mm plossl in SW 130p(f5).  For a 127mak, the 1.25" focuser together with long focal length is a limiting factor, you have difficulty to find a 50mm 1.25" EP.  A 50mm 1.25" doesn't show you more sky than a 32mm plossl, but it provides 2.8 times brighter image than a 32mm can do, which is important in seeing large nebulas.

I, too, have used UHC and others in my little ST80 - with the desired effects. I don't know where the "urban-legend" of not using narrow-band filters in scopes under, say, 200mm (some versions claim 150mm, and other numbers) - but it's still be passed along as gospel. And it's certainly false.

Dispelling is fun,

Dave
