OBSERVING MEET - March 2016

The UK weather has not been kind to our hobby for quite a while. Hopefully conditions will improve in March so once again we can get the Group together for an observing meet.

For those that have not been to the Blaenavon site before, it is located next to the radio masts north east of town, at the paved " Fox Hunter " car park. The coordinates are.......

On Google Earth:  51*  47'  25.74" N  by  3*  4'  10.74" W

On Google Maps:  51.790573  ,  -3.069705

The proposed meet dates for the month are:  Friday March 11, 2016  or  Saturday March 12 th  as an alternate pursuant to the weather; please mark your Calendar.

Check this thread for updates, and on the day, in the afternoon to see if the observing session is a "GO" or a "NO - GO" based on the latest weather forecasts.

Cheers,

that is the weekend of SGL11 .............

Yeah, I was thinking about stopping by Lucksall during the day also, but the weekend does provide the darkest sky option in March to make traveling worthwhile for those who cannot attend SGL 11.  I'm just hoping there will be clear skies.

Nice one mike hopefully make it before packing away for the spring

Looks like I'll be packing away for the Spring also.  It will be time to focus on other interests.

UPDATE:

Being about 40 miles away from Blaenavon, I have to rely on a consensus of weather forecasts to see if the expense is worthwhile for many of us to make the trip to our observing site. At the moment I'm getting conflicting reports which include..... 100% clear conditions, and also 90% cloud cover for most of the night; " what to believe "  ?  :dontknow:

As we have been looking forward to a long awaited observing meet, including myself, I'll post the call about 15:00 ( 3:00 pm ) based on SGL's " Clear Outside " forecast. In the meantime, I'm going to pack my kit up in the van.

UPDATE:

Since my previous post a few minutes ago the weather has deteriorated according to Clear Outside. Considering the overall consensus of other forecasts, I am compelled to change the call to a " NO-GO " for tonight.  :clouds1:

Sorry folks.
