eq6: can I fix the RA circle relative to polarscope?

Recommended Posts

Hi Rob

I think maybe the mounts use a different worm mechanism (?). On the eq6, the RA circle screws -is fixed to prevent it moving relatively to the axis- to the toothed worm gear inside the housing with two thumb screws.

I see two cases:

1. The clutch is loose: no problem. The ra circle rotates with the axis.

2. The clutch is tightened. This prevents the toothed worm gear turning,

It is case 2 which is the problem. With the RA circle fixed by the set screws to the worm gear, I can see no way of taping the RA circle to to the rotating head. Indeed if I could, I would then have to un-fix it each time. Ahhgghh!

Whilst I'm here, the dec axis on the eq6 works exactly as expected: the dec circle rotates when the set screws are tightened no matter whether the clutch is engaged or not...
