guiding a dslr instead a scope

is it possible to guide a dslr with a 300mm lens and with the 9x50 finder with an asi120mc?

Yes, though you would need to make a special bracket to hold them both. Probably a bit of design and diy required

I've just been through the exercise of mounting my DSLR to my modded EQ6.

I settled on a Farpoint Bread Board Dovetail and fitted an Arca Swiss clamp.

If you got a long enough Bread Board you could possibly mount the camera and finder scope side by side.

Have a look at the Farpoint website as they have all sorts of bibs 'n' bobs.

As I'm in the process of doing something similar I've looked around and saw this thread.

Side by side bar should do the trick, camera bolted to short dovetail.

Yes!

The side by side bar is the Altair Astro one

Bought as a package with the 60mm scope.
I have moved the guide scope rings into the centre for better balance, there are two sets of holes.
The rings should take a 50mm scope if needed.

thanks for the link,  maybe I'll have to wait a bit before importing more stuff,  our currency is very unbalanced compared to euro,  dollar and gpb.

I knocked up this fairly crude but solid side by side rig with a spare dovetail, a clamp made from a bit of thick aluminium plate and an old tripod head.

The main bar is just a dovetail, add a set of rings or find a way of bolting guide scope to bar.
Bolt camera to other end of dovetail, job done.
Does'nt have to cost alot, just needs some holes drilling.

I'll buy a spare dovetail to make  it and a cheap tripod to remove its head.

yes,  that's what i had in mind.  I'll buy a second dovetail in here and use some bolts and use a tripod head for the camera.  i guess I'll have to buy an adapter to mount the guider holder to the dovetail.

I was able to put this rig together mostly with things I already had. I did have to get the rings and better metal w/nylon tipped thumbscrews for them.

Just a thought but the SW adventurer L bracket allows you to connect two items.
