I managed to test the tilt adapter this afternoon (very briefly through gaps in the cloud lasting a few seconds each!). Also, by the time those gaps appeared the Sun was in a poor position for me just above the roof of my house, that didn't do much for the seeing. Nevertheless, the adapter works and the banding has been eliminated ;-)
 

I just need to learn how to process this image data now :-) These were simply unsharp masked and brightness adjusted.

Focus Magic is the tool (or topaz) best suited for this, I have also attached my processing steps which might be useful. I also use neat image which is also a great tool for sharpening and smoothing.
