How Cool! What Star are you?

I had someone email me, asking about "buying" a star, but he wasn't interested in the usual ripoff artists. He wanted to find a star for his 12 year old daughter, that she might actually see. I found one, wrote up a paper for him, printed a nice certificate and he seemed quite happy. I don't recall which star it was offhand, but it was naked eye from here.

Made me feel pretty good!

If you're under 50, you can use it to find a star whose distance in light-years matches your age: the light you see from that star is light emitted around the time when you were born. I'm Iota Ursae Majoris, by the way - nearly off the map.
