eye pieces 1.25" vs 2"

Recommended Posts

Okay . could someone explain to me why you would buy a telescope with a 1.25" instead of a 2" eyepiece?

is there any advantages to the 1.25" eyepiece over the 2" eyepiece?

I would think i'd be better off purchasing a scope with a 2" eyepiece and not bother putting my $$$ into a bunch of 1.25" filters and eye peices??

unless as I stated there are pro's and cons' to both perhaps??

thanks

Frank

The advantage of the 2" eyepiece is that you can get around 50% more field of view from the wider barrel. Thats it really. Many folks therefore end up with a set of 1.25" eyepieces for high and medium power viewing and a 2" eyepiece for low power / wide field viewing. If your primary interest is the moon and planets then a 2" eyepiece may not be a lot of use.
