Ready, Set Coordinates, Observe!

Recommended Posts

Here is my observing set-up last night/this morning for Catalina: from left to right, the Orion Astroview 6" reflector, the Orion 127mm Mak-Cass and the Orion 180mm Mak-Cass, all polar-aligned and ready to go! I had a wonderful observing window between midnight and three and enjoyed every minute of it! I found the view through the reflector most satisfying because of the wider field placing Catalina in context. The image through the Orion 180mm was bigger (magnified), but not significantly brighter than the 150mm reflector. But even the amplified, slightly brighter image in the big Mak was not as pleasing as the reflector's. My image of Catalina (which was just my camera aimed at the sky, not through a scope) is in the imaging and video astronomy forums.
