USB powered dew heater strip

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I think the answer is no... but I'm looking for a dew heater that I can power from the USB port (5v) on my Celestron nexstar evo 925.

Does such a thing exist? I don't want to have to use power tank as it kind of negates the point of having an rechargeable internal battery for the scope.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron.

The normal maximum current you can draw from a USB socket is 500mA.  That means a max power of 2.5 watts.  Is that enough?  Maybe for a smaller scope, but I doubt it's enough for a 9", especially in our climate.

MAYBE a USB battery can give you enough power. They often offer 2.1A (10W or so) or even more and come with capacities of about 20000mAh. Much smaller than a Lead-bat tank and you can also power other/one another USB devices.
