And you thought UK astronomy was a problem

Fascinating article. It's such a shame that in addition to all the conflict they have to endure they are not able to enjoy their harmless hobby and view their amazing dark skies. Makes me think I should be donating to Astronomy without Borders .......

So sad, and to think of the great Islamic astronomers of the Medieval period, when Europe was pretty much still in the Dark Age!

I doubt things are any better in Syria and Iraq in areas controlled by ISIS. I wouldn't want to have to my hobby to those ignorant scum, although I doubt they'd give me the chance!

Wow...........

Something we take for granted, and moan about the cloud hampering our hobby.

"Astronomy without Borders"............

I like that. Bring the simple joy of stargazing to parts of the world where there is conflict and bring hope and joy to those affected.

I'd happily donate a scope or two to the cause.

I can understand the cops point of view...............easily mistaken for a missile launcher.
