Deep sky imaging showcase 2015

All of my images are from the first three months of 2015. Things went very downhill for me from April; health, a duff guidecam that took ages to diagnose and weather conspired against any decent imaging. Anyway, here are my highlights, all taken with a QSI 683-WSG:

The Pleiades - LRGB - SW80ED

The Triangulum Galaxy - LHaRGB - SW80ED

The Crab Nebula - Ha/Oiii/Oiii - Celestron EdgeHD 800

The Rosette Nebula - Ha/Oiii/Oiii - SW80ED

The Orion Nebula & Running Man Nebula - LHaRGB - SW80ED

The Whirlpool Galaxy - LRGB - Celestron EdgeHD 800

WIth any luck 2016 will be a much better year and will provide many more imaging hours. I still haven't managed a first light with my William Optics Star71, purchased in October......

Clear Skies all!

I will be the first to admit that I am not yet on the level of some of the posters above. But I am making progress and I am happy about it.

Got the scope in February and started with the Carina Nebula:

Mid year I started guiding and the Lagoon Nebula was one of my first targets:

The highlight of the year IMO was the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud:

and finally the last picture for the year - Orion:

These were my highlights for 2015 and I am looking forward what 2016 will bring (hopefully less clouds!)

Thanks for looking and clear skies!

These are some pretty inspiring images.  I just joined SGL, and here are my 5 best images from 2015, after starting with the hobby in May.  All were taken with a unmodded Canon 50D, through a Vixen VMC200L on an EQ-6 mount, guided with an ASI120MM and an Orion 50mm guidescope.  Exposures were usually 5 minutes, and total integration ranged from 2-5 hours for each image.  I cheated a little bit and included two images that have some integration from 2016 (M101 and the Pleiades), but I did start them in 2015...

I'm really looking forward to cleaning up my technique and making even better images in 2016.

Cheers,

A Rosette from the beginning of 2015

2 hours each of H-alpha and [NII] plus 4 hours of the much weaker [OIII] signal, mapped Hydrogen to red, Nitrogen to green and Oxygen to blue, all in 600 sec subs with the Megrez 90 and 0.8 focal reducer / flattener through 3 nm Astrodons.

Hi Every one, I was lucky last year as I had just built the obsy,

and just purchased The Atik 383l and Efw 2 filter wheel so I could get into the dark

art of Narrow band imaging as well as rgb, and I was blessed with a couple of nights of

clear skies.

It's virtually my only decent image captured last year, and I've only had one successful night since.

Hmm. Just 5 images? I don't know what are the best so I'll just choose some randomly...

First 3 are using the NP127is and Atik490EX camera, last 2 are using the NP127is and G4-16000 camera.

How can someone take such great pictures? What kind of a scope is it? And the cameras must be expensive.
