I just can't get enough of Orion

Recommended Posts

I was out a few minutes ago in near freezing temps and Orion and the Pleiades are beautiful. I can make out 2 stars in the Trapezium as well as other Theta 2 Orionis and another star near M42. The bottom star in the sword is a nice fairly bright double. The belt stars show probably 40 stars around them in my 15 x 70 bins. Betelgeuse was so bright, it reminded me of Mars. The cold dry air just makes everything look great.

The weather has been so bad this year I have still not seen Orion, other than one quick view of Betelgeuse in October. Finally meant to get a clear night on Tuesday, so Orion will be my target :)

There are so many interesting objects to view in Orion I often spend a whole session just observing this area. If only the clouds would depart.

Cold and dry, aren't two adjectives that go together very often in the dank British climate!

But,when they do,they provide excellent observing conditions.

Well, it's 30 degrees at 2200hrs here, and the clouds are forming a nice solid blanket, keeping the heat in and the stars hidden.
