Orion universal camera adapter question

Alright so I have a 8 inch dobsonain / Newtonian reflector , I also have a canon 550d. I wanted to know if I would need a Barlow to help my camera focus?am I only limited to plossis and Keller eyepieces inside the t adopter? How are astrophotographers able to get a wider field of view if a 32 mm eyepiece doesn't fit ?

If you are using eyepiece projection (camera has lens on and there is an eyepiece in the telescope) then the camera is focusing on the eyepiece image.

If you are using prime focus (camera has no lens on and there is no eyepiece) then you might need a barlow to get the camera to reach focus in your telescope.
