tripod alternatives?

Hi there, I'm new here and I'm interested on buying an astronomical binocular for christmas and would want to find a tripod alternative to hold them steadier. Any alternatives?

Get a nylon broom and turn it upside down, rest the bins in the soft brushes.....Astro Bins if you're new to viewing are better in smaller sizes, 8 X 42 are a really good size, you can hold these in your hands....

Might be a good idea to qualify that statement by suggesting a " New " broom. 

The ones around here are sometimes used to sweep up little presents left by stray     critters.
