Hello all, another newbie!

Just about to have my first telescope as a gift and rekindle my love for astronomy that I had as a 15 year old (50 light years ago!). Glad to be part of your community.

Can anyone recommend a good starter astronomy book? Some has told me that " Turn left at Orion" is a good one?

Hi and welcome to SGL - I'm no observer but I understand that TLAO is often recommended. You could also download something like Stellarium off the internet - It's a planetarium software programme and will help you navigate around the sky.

Look forward to seeing you around :)

Hello and welcome to SGL. Like you I've started to re-kindle my interest in astronomy since I were a lad, too many years ago to count! Equipment has advanced a lot in the intervening years, and is so much more available. You won't be short of things to spend money on!

As well as Stellarium, I've found "Mobile Observatory" to be a useful app. Not free, but cheap.
