Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens

Hello guys

i was wondering if any one had used the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens lens.  is it any good for astro use, as well as day use? (but mainly astro)

also what exactly does the STM do?

STepper Motor, to eliminate noise when taking video clips.

I have not used this lens for astro but it is a good all rounder the STM as said uses a stepper motor for focussing and its quite smooth in opperation much better than the standard kit lenses that have a very slack action and limited focus movement, this should help if pointed at the sky.

I have the similar non-STM EF-S lens. It's good for daytime photography but not the best for AP. Here's a 1 minute shot of Andromeda taken at 250mm/f5.6, note the elongated stars in the corners. Stepping it down would improve this but would also make it quite slow. My old SMC Takumar 200mm f4 is a far better lens for AP.
