Very good stuff.

A thought on your 2 hours of short subs for the core: you are doing short subs because the area in question is very bright - so it has an excellent signal to noise ratio. In that case, do you need 2 hours? Personally I doubt it. I'd spend more than an hour of that time on the long subs in search of the outer glow which has a very poor S/N ratio.

Edit. In fact, once we think about this, you have in your RGB captures what is, in effect, all the short luminance you need. RGB captures about a third (in theory) of the luminance signal per unit time. I find it's more like a quarter. So why shoot L for the core? Why not use your RGB to generate a synthetic L for the core? I often do this, use L for outlying faint stuff and 'RGB only' for regions which are very strong in signal.
