I found M51 for the very first time yesterday (07.05.2008) and I managed to capture this image.

Details:

Canon 400d

Explorer 200

HEQ5 unguided

9 subs @ 60 secs. each

Stacked in Registax, processed in CS3

Saturn5 - it was nice being able to image the object and still watch it through the guidescope. I was surprised that the Skylux picked out and althought it was faint it wa defo there.

I have played around a little and I think this looks a little more natural, although the sky could be darker.

Marked improvement for a "little play" - well done. That vignetting can be tempered a bit with some flat frames. You'll get a mroe even background then.
