Early PST results

Hi all,

Now the Sun's starting to climb out of the hedges/trees at the end of the garden, I've been trying to get out more with my PST. Processing the results is interesting and a little different to what I'm used to. Here are a few early attempts...

I personally prefer the Sun imaged like this and those images look stunning partically the movie

I agree that the sun needs to be viewed in Ha - those shots are stunning...

I really want one of those scopes, but they are a little out of my price range ATM.

Coronado makes one in Calcium K now. It's the opposite end of the spectrum-blue/violet- and gives an interesting contrast to the H-A. I'd imagine the cost would be somewhat less, considering Ca-K is a wider line.

I had a look through the Ha scope at Canterbury a couple of weeks ago - totally amazing!!

I saw one of these in action last week, while filming for a S@N Sun special. The scope delivers a blue/violet disk but it's very difficult to see any detail - apart from the blue disk! I believe that the scope isn't designed for visual use but is supposed to be used in conjunction with a camera. The set-up I saw was coupled to a Watec video camera and delivered a beautiful image. I think the cost is the same as the H-alpha PST.

The features seen at CaK will be a lot more subtle than Ha. That's about what I would expect, but I'm sure with practice, you could see some neat stuff. Thanks for the quickie review, Starman, and the images you linked are fantastic! If I have time tomorrow, I'd like to describe some of the salient features one or two of them, if I may. Unless you'd like to reserve that for yourslef, of course.

I think the CaK view is also affected by age. The older you are the less sensitive to the blue image.

Those are stunning images Pete, especially the Full Solar disk (i wonder if S@N will make it a poster ).

We have a PST in our local club, must make an effort to use it sometime.

Not me Martyn. The Sun in white light is about as dull as it gets at the moment unfortunately. No spots whatsoever. That's solar minimum for you :sunny:

The PST's are great scopes.

I particularily like the shots of the prominecies.
