1983 Prinz Astral varipower 60mm.

Most people would say it was rubbish, but looking at the moon when I was a kid was as big a buzz as anything since.

2007  SW 150 on EQ3

i couldn't believe the views of Saturn compared to what I saw as a kid in the 60mm

2010 SW 200p EQ5

moved from my flat to a house with garden so I wasn't restricted to a small balcony

2012  250px dob

sold the 200p. The ease of setting up  means the dob gets out more.

2014 127 mak AZ GoTo

Bought as grab n go but after buying a solar filter gets loads of use observing and imaging the sun

Fascinating to see what people have bought, sold and kept and the reasons why.

My meagre selection is below, I'm not a prolific purchaser and I still have them all, except the first one:

1979 - 6" Fullerscopes F8 reflector on Charles Frank EQ mount. Bought by my wonderful parents to support my passion for Astronomy. Sadly sold when I went to Uni to study that very subject.

1999 - Celestron C8. The scope I always wanted as a boy, a dream come true. Used for casual visual and sharing views with friends and family.

2012 - Orange William Optics Zenithstar 66SD. Bought because it was orange and I thougt it would look nice sitting atop my C8! Turned out to be a great scope to start off widefield imaging so I lucked in there.

2013 - Megrez 72ED. Bought as it had a better focusser for imaging and a bit more aperture. Turned out to be a superb grab and go scope for visual.

2014 - Altair Astro RC6. I got this for Electronically Assisted Observing and is my most used scope at present.

My next scope will probably be a 120ED frac of some sort.

My Explorer 200P went today. My current list is...

  • Polarex-Unitron 60mm
  • Skylight 60mm
  • Tele Vue Pronto
  • SW ED120
  • SW Flextube 400P Dob
  • Celestron CPC1100

I had eleven scopes a few months ago and I am not feeling the need for any more changes. If I didn't know myself better I would be tempted to say I'm done!

And I was thinking that 7 were too many in just one year since I began.

Currently having a SW ST102, SW SkyMax 127 and a SW 200 dob. I gave my old Celestron 60 travelscope, a SW 130p heritage and a SW 90 Mak to my brother and a SW ST70 was sold because I just had too many of them.

Today it happens to be exactly one year since I got the Celestron 60 travelscope, but the acquisitions seem that won't stop since I just received 2 days ago an AZ-EQ5 and a SW 80 ED is on the list.

I recently saw one that... nevermind :rolleyes2:

However, I would be off topic if I would say anything about it and I'd really better not think and talk too much about it. I just said that a 80ED is on the list, right?

PZO Maksutov 70mm FL700?? - 70's Soviet era. Polands version of the Zeiss Telementor 'school telescope', I believe. My 1st ever scope.

Dark Star Dobsonian Newt 6.25" F7.7 - Bought as a combined xmas/birthday/pass tests scope.

Tal 2M 150mm F8 Newtonian- Yeah. Awesome. That is all.

Tal 100RS 100mm F10  Frac - earliest of the RS's with 2" R&P focuser. Reluctantly sold to fund another astro purchase.

William Optics Megrez 110mm F5.95 - Beautiful scope, well made as expected, but a tad too 'colourful' for me at the time. Perhaps guilty of not giving it enough time? Swapped for the MK72.

Tal 1 110mm F7.3 Newt- Superb scope, esp at 2nd hand prices.

Tal M 80mm F6.58 Newt - Ingenious, over-built, great optics.

Tal Alcor 65mm f7.7 Newt - Just amazing.

Lomo Astele Maksutov 70mm F12.5 - Super  Russian Mak. Again, only sold to gather astro funds.

Ylena Maksutov 85mm F14 - A Lomo built scope. Utterly awesome in ever way. This was a sad day when sold.

Tal Klevtsov '200K' 200mm F10 - Easily my best scope ever bought. Will never ever sell.

Intes MK72 Maksutov 180mm F10 - Super scope, but it was either the Klev or this. Sold to a good home.

Intes-Micro M500 Maksutov 127mm F10 - Another Russian stunner. Typing this makes physically ill. Cannot believe I sold it. Gross decision.

Burgess 90mm F7.7 Apo - CaF2/Lanthanum Doublet. Exceptional wee Apo. Another that I will not sell.

Carton Optical 60mm F16.7 Frac - Utterly stonkingly sharp, tiny frac. Bought as Lens cell & tube, added Crawmach crayford. Grab-n-go-tastic.

Astro-Tech 66mm FL400 - bought as a birder/travel scope. Virtually colour free. Sold to help fund car repair bill !! Screw you Renault :angryfire:

I think that's me? They're not in order I'm afraid.

Hmm.

  • Feb 2013 - Heritage 130p
  • Oct 2013 - Skywatcher 250px
  • Jan 2014 - Lunt 35
  • April 2105 - Equinox 80

And I still have all of them. Suddenly I feel hard done by.
