Northern Lights

Hi!

We are going away soon in the hunt for the northern lights. We have cameras and tripods (mainly a canon 7D mark ii on a sturdy tripod) and wondered if anyone had any tips or tricks for photographing please?

The widest lens we have is 16-35 (Mark ii too I think) but other than that we don't have any special lenses or astronomy gear for the camera (we will have a pair of bins to take).

Is there anything anyone would recommend please?

The beauty of digital is you can snap away and see your results instantly :-) Suggest you start with 1s - 5s exposures and wideangle. Good luck

If you don't have a remote release use the timer function

Have a look at images others have taken and see what settings they used

Practice using the camera at night, finding infinity focus and using the dials/functions
