Hello From the Mauna Kea Visitor Center

Hi,

My name is Marc Roberts.  I am currently working for The Mauna Kea visitor center as the IT and Technical specialist.  I also do a live broadcast from the MK visitor center to the 'Imiloa Planetarium the last Friday of the month.  I send them pictures I take with our Hyperstar with an Orion cam with AmCap software. Recently, I have been joined by a volunteer(Don).  He brings his Lodestar camera, and the quality has been excellent--even with the polar alignment off.  We corrected the polar alignment and hope to take even better pictures.  I have another job as well.  I am the Physics Lab Coordinator and Lecturer at the University of Hawaii, Hilo..

Hi Marc and welcome to SGL.

You have a wonderful place of work. The 150" Infrared Flux Collector that you have there was a project I worked on in 1977, seeing the telescope at Dunford Hadfields in Sheffield before it was shipped to Mauna Kea. There were possibilities that I might get a trip out there during the commissioning, that sadly did not happen, and I still live in hope of seeing Hawaii one day. The guide scope on that beast was a 12" Reflector !

Good luck with your observing.

Welcome Marc

I know you will enjoy the company you find here in SGL.

We were at the center about a year ago and quite enjoyed it. Someday I hope to make it to the top.

I might have to drop by to the center again when we are in Hawaii next Jan
