Kelling Heath - any spare pitches?

Recommended Posts

Hi

The other-half and I are going to the Kelling Heath star party in a couple weeks (but going a week early)

We're looking forward to it (fingers crossed for decent weather), but although we booked our camping pitch when we left last spring, there were only a few not very nice pitches left.

The one we currently have is below a tree  :-\ so far from ideal...

So we were wondering if anyone had a spare pitch that we could arrange a swap for with the Kelling Heath camping site... If so, please get in touch

We've bought a monster of a new tent and we're also worried it won't actually fit on that pitch because of the tree.

Thanks

Nico

Your best bet is probably to contact Kelling Heath direct. They sometimes get cancellations.

As you are going well before the main weekend, Kelling Heath may have already booked the days at the beginning of the week to someone else.  My guess is that if you want to swap with someone who is now not going, you are both going to have to clear it with the site first.  Are you aware that Kelling Heath have a cancellation policy and you could conceivably end up having to 'buy out' the other person's cancellation fee on their pitch.

I would talk to Kelling Heath first.

Keep an eye on here and abs, especially closer to the time as 'due to unforeseen circumstances' cancellations do happen. I managed to get a great pitch last year when I had already got a pitch booked under the trees, I didn't have to pay any extra just transferred him the money, for the face value then turned up, said I'm on that pitch and the people at Kelling were fine with that. I did not manage to get any money back for the empty pitch I had going under the trees so just had to swallow the cost, was definitely worth it though for the better view.

Check with the people at Kelling if you do go down that road, I did and they were fine with it, no extra fees etc.

I'm stuck in trees again this time but will move on the Sunday when most people seem to vanish! If you're going the week beforehand then ignore that one!

HTH

Matt

It's there an entrance fee to the event? I live quite close so I would be looking to pop by.

It's free for public to attend the event on the main weekend Sat or Sun. You can walk round the astronomy stalls and the pitches, chat with the astronomers, and potentially get an invite to return after dark for a look through a few scopes. If you do come back after dark beware of the "no white light" rule. Use dim red torches only. :)

Nice touch on the "dim red light" mention Kim - last autumn we lost an F-15 over Weybourne because some clown was wondering around with what can only be described as a Laser on his head, constantly telling people who challenged him that "....like, what, it's red isn't it?" LOL!
