AR2403 asi120mm v DMK21au618

Had a bit of a brainwave at work and figured if when using the asi120mm I need to pull the Powermate/ext tube out so far then I must be able to get focus with the DMK21. So leaving the nosepiece fitted and using the Powermate/ext tube I adjusted them as required.  both AR2403 images are 2,000 frames and stacked approx. 250 in Reg6 The first is the asi120mm and 2nd DMK21au618.

The DMK21 is a much more sensitive cam in my opinion and the images show it. Much better contrast and no "newtons rings" delighted that I will able to use it for some close up prom action as well.

Nice comparison Pete, the 618 chip definitely gives better resolution and less noise than the CMOS. Though the ASI should give higher frame rates and larger stacks to mitigate much of the noise.

The 618s still perform very well at long focal lengths, for planetry and solar - with the larger pixels and clean signal offsetting higher QE. Though think the new 174 and 224 cameras have the lead.

Exactly right also not sure i want be doing mosaics with it at this focal length.

It can be done with FOVs that size, but you have to be slightly(?) crazy like me. This one one of the later mosaics (74 panes) with the little DMK21:

The 11 paner I made some time later with the ASI174MM was a lot more fun to do:

Your mosaics are superb I have seen many of them. I am guessing you like a well oiled machine after so many.

Pete the 618 has always been my weapon of choice, no other camera comes close...................only because I only own the DMK""618

It's true there are no NR but I am waiting to see if they do appear once I get the 152mm up & running, because of the res I may well have to upgrade to a PG ccd but the DMK will still stay in my kit too, it has always performed faultlessly, no hot pixels & just the right fov with the Q + FR.
