CDC and SH2 catalogues

Hi,

Does anyone know of a complete SH2 catalogue and how to install it in CDC. I am sure that I use to have it listed in the search dialogue in one my previous laptops by default but it is no longer showing in my new installation.

A google search for SH2 catalogue turns up a couple: http://www.sharplesscatalog.com/sharplessdata.aspx

is one of the first.

There is data as on the page/link but what the CDC format is for a file I do not know.

Not sure if the data on the link can be saved as a table or excel sheet either.

Do CDC supply an example file and format for data for you to fill in and install?

Could email and ask, then send them the file when completed to maintain the open aspect of the product.

For the link the data seems to be supplied in several pages, a fair bit of the related information on the site appears to be to images of the SH2 objects.

Just about all others seem to want to give you their image of the object not data, although I have not checked all such as the SIMBAD information.

On P2 there is a reference toCDC.

Thank you for taking the trouble of looking my query up. I will follow the links you have provided. I am very surprised that CDC can provide catalogues to stars of magnitude 19 and dimmer but has no viable catalogue for some of the most interesting objects of the deep sky.

You can also download it from Vizier, here. This might be the most flexible way to get it into something approaching CDC format. Certainly you can save it in any number of table formats. This is the way I got it for my charts. Since it is a simple text file it might be just a case of deleting the header information. In general, as a source of catalogues, Vizier is great.

If I'm reading the contents of this page correctly ( http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/documentation/installation_of_extra_catalogs ), the SH2 catalogue is included within the CDC Lynds Bright Nebula (LBN) catalogue, which can be selected from the CdC Deep Sky tab of the Catalogue Settings window.

They seem to be there because I can search for them OK, e.g. enter sh2-132 into the search field.

Edit: unless you've already done so, you might need to download the DSO catalogue from here: http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/download
