One eye to the EP. What do you do with the other?

I first keep it open, but that's distracting, so I wink it shut, but that soon gets exhausting, so I cover it with my hand, but then I need my hand for whatever, so I open it, and so the cycle goes...

I've voted put my hand over it because that's just the best!

If it's dark enough I tend to keep it open, otherwise it's all of the above

I tried using an eyepatch but kept ramming my open eye into the eyepiece/focuser so gave that up. I tend to hold the eye shut with my other hand.

If I'm using both hands then I hold one eye shut, then when just viewing, I hold my hand over the other eye.

Eye patch for me, except when using the finder then it's both open.

When imaging it doesn't matter!

I wear a hooded coat now and can pull the hood over my 'spare' eye. Pretty sure I wink it normally though

I use a plastic eye patch from a Xmas cracker. It does the job.

If there is enough exraeneous light, I just close my left eye, if not it stays open. It is hard work and uncomfortable keeping one eye open against it's will.

Tried keeping it shut, bought an eyepatch( kids loved that one ) but never got used to it so now just keep it open and concentrate on the other at the EP, occasionally winking shut.

For Saturn and other bright stuff, keeping it open is an option. For faint fuzzies, I have to put my hand over it.

On planets I tend to keep both open, on DSOs I try to eliminate light with hand or hood. What you prefer to do may have something to do with how your eyes focus on the object in the eyepiece - whether you see it as near or far. With both eyes open I can make them focus for long distance which is less tiring on the muscles, but when one is shut I find myself near-focusing. Trouble is, after a long night's session, I find my ageing eyes have a hard time focussing properly on anything.

On cloudy nights I keep both shut.

I've got my other eye to the other eyepiece of my Binoviewers!

(no good on deep sky, but for Saturn (can't wait to see Jupiter), well, I'm astounded by the views!).

Normally find it difficult to close the other eye, so i give it a bit of help by poking it with a sharp stick dipped in salt!

It depends. Sometimes I leave it open, particularly if the scope has a dark tube. I sometimes just shut it, but I prefer to use the eyepatch, which I no longer use in normal life, but I still have in my accessories bag.

I normally just keep it gently closed, I've also bought some black cloth to make an observing hood to help keep out the light from a couple of annoying street lights.
