Telescope in the conservatory query....

Recommended Posts

Hiya...

Does it generally cause any problems to keep a telescope in a conservatory? I have a Tak TSA 120 refractor but wondering if the hot conservatory climate is likely to cause any problems...

Thanks,

Alan.

Hi Alan,

You mean the  Con(ob)servatory  In extreme heat I always move them out else, it is a great place to keep them for me. Won't affect your Tak, but there have been occasions where the lubricant  in scts has sild back onto the primary or meniscus.

When its cooler does not take any time to acclimatise..

I can't see there being a big issue, scopes are designed to deal with reasonably large changes in temperature (going from inside the house to outside). Some things I would be worried about are:

- telescope in direct sunlight (could damage/fade the finish)

- security - I have a conservatory and I would worry that the telescope would be on display to anyone sneaking around my garden.

This is just my opinion, but hope that helps  :cool2:.
