Please, please take anything published by New Scientist with many large grains of salt. This publication is borderline at best, scientifically.

Besides, all estimates of Anromeda's size I have seen have placed it actually larger than the Milky Way. Roughly 120,000 to 170,000 LY diameter. And that was years ago.

It occurs to me that there may have been a misunderstanding on the units used. If measured in light years, and the diameter is ~220,000. In Parsecs, it's ~67,500, since a parsec is ~3.26 ly.

This would be typical of a misrepresentation by this magazine. I've seen it before.
