Aurora caught on camera! 22 June 2015

Recommended Posts

This was my first time ever seeing an Aurora in person.

I was out on my scope, and had heard some talk throughout the day of some massive solar storms.

"They never make it down to me... even when they forecast them to..."

I'll leave the details of my observing session to the appropriate section...

It got a little darker, and what I thought were high level clouds ended up being my Aurura.

I couldn't believe it... I was actually seeing one!

It moves in ways that I couldn't have imagined.

Without boring you with further details, here are some of the pictures! (None of these are edited or altered in any way, shape or form.)

Sorry for delay in posting these shots of the Aurora, seen just inland from Aberystwyth with shots from 23.53 to 00.08 UT, 22nd - 23rd June. Taken with Canon 1100d , 18mm lens at f5.6  and 15 sec exposures at ISO 800. You can see the edge of a weather front slowly moving off SE in the photo's. We were just so lucky to catch this one here!!
