1. Miyauchi Bj-100 20/37x100

2. Helios Apollo 15x70

3. Oberwerk Ultra 10x50

4. Opticron BGA 10x42

5. Vortex Raptor 6.5x32

6. VixenSG 2.1x42

7. Strathspey 15x70 (actually 15x62.5)

8. Strathspey Marine 10x50 (actually 10x41)

9. Frank Nipole 10x50 (yes that is a hinge-mount tripod adaptor fixed to it)

10. Zenith 10x50 (belonged to my late father-in-law -sentimental value only)

11. No-name (well, would you admit to it?) 12-60x70 (actually ?-??x49) zoom - with "the latest ruby coatings" possibly the worst binocular I've ever had the misfortune to look through. Kept for when I give talks, as an example of everything to avoid. No, I didn't buy it; it was donated.

Ok, I get it - you are the human fly and have compound eyes...

Gucki 2.3 x 40 widebinos 28°

These arrived today, of course it's been raining with 100% cloud cover so I've no Idea what they're like to look through. Seem very well made, very light, and came with a nice little carry case.

Add a head strap and they would make a great SteamPunk accessory

See http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/255161-vixens-ultra-low-power-bins-tried-at-last/page-2#entry2784896and surrounding thread

Thanks that was a massive help I have gone for the http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00CF1LS94/1944 and this will save me £50!!! whoop :)

When you get it, you will find that the 'manual' is next to useless; I have written a more comprehensive one (in the "Choosing & Using" section of the web site.)

hi people!

here are some photos of my Saxon 30x80 WP Binoculars

the tripod for those of you that are wondering is a Celestron trailseeker, my apologies for the taped up plate... i screwed it on too tight :( and so the tape is a temporary fix while i wait for a replacement! :)

i look forward to your comments on these

P.S. the last picture is of a water trough for cows that is about 600 meters away from my home. i took it with a digital camera against the lens so im sorry for the bad quality. also the smaller pictures are because there is a 1 MB limit and i couldn't fit them all in, but i tried my best :)

Here is my little collection, I'm surprised how many pairs I have now!

Orion 8x20's - just because! Fun to see what you can actually see with something so small!

Coronado 10x25 - used to be solar binos but filters got damaged so converted to normal use. Currently missing in action, hence not in the photo!

Swift 10x50 Ranger Mk 1 - rarely used, pretty old but very nice quality

Canon 15x50IS - great for grab and go daytime or astro

Barr & Stroud Savannah 8x56 - low power, easy to handhold, bright

Opticron 20x80 - Latest member of the family, tripod mounted, pleased so far!

My 6,3 Quantum binocular mounted on a yolk mount and bought from the wide screen center. They come with X20 , X20 & X37 eyepieces. I find these binoculars work really well when left outside for about half an hour to cool down. The good thing about these types of binocular is you can view for hours without neck ache, coupled with a swivel chair they are excellent.  Steve

I have the same tripod which is fine but it does limit how far up to the zenith you can point your bins (i have a set of 20x90). During last summer while doing some solar observing i thought to myself: "what it i unscrew the handle (the pan and tilt handle) and rotate it 180 degrees (so instead of facing me, faces away from me). A couple of minutes later.....i had done it and the end result is that i can now mount my 20x90 bins on the 8115 and point them upwards 90 degrees and observe at zenith. It takes a bit of getting used to panning and tilting with this configuration...........but it works.

Essentially.........the pan/tilt handle is no longer being pushed downwards and hitting the tripod........but is being pulled upwards where it has all the space in the world to move about.

Having been pleased with my Opticron 20x80's, I've just picked up a pair of Helios Apollo 22x85's which may well end up replacing them. They are a much bigger prospect though, although still manageable on the tripod and trigger grip ball head thingy ?. Might need to tighten the adjustment for viewing at higher altitudes.

Will post a picture soon.

Two sources of joy:

Left: TS Optics 15x70, 4.4 deg FOV. Large but relatively light, giving many hours of enjoyment since 2010. Mostly for astronomical use as finder/explorer or grab-and-go companion for short excursions. Most often hand-held, but not seldom mounted on photo tripod with an adapter. Newly collimated.

Right: Nikon Monark 8x42, 6.3 deg FOV. Since 2015 providing hours of joyful birding during daytime, and the occasional grab-and-go nighttime experience. Hand-held only.

Finally finished these Terrascan (Peter Drew) binoculars.

2 x 150mm primaries @ f6 with curved spider vanes and fully flocked.

Primaries and secondaries re-set on silicone as original method used a piece of felt and Evo Stick.

No more refractor neck ache when viewing the zenith!

Moriniboy. Those look totally epic. The thread could be closed at any time as surely the Terrascan won't be topped in my eyes.

Have you been able to get a first light ?? Your comment may indicate not. Would love to see Jupiter thru them.

Guess I'll stick with my small scale binoviewers for now.

Regards. John
