I would look out for M44 and M67 in Cancer - they are still visible earlyish after dusk and are a great sight.

I just ordered "turn left at Orion" and "2015 guide to the night sky" hopefully they won't take long to deliver. Hi Stu, I also have been looking at a 6mm plossl after seeing another post but will have to wait a bit as I've spent a fair bit this last month. I've made a list of ronin's suggestions and I think I'm gonna start with the ring nebular and leo triplet and then maybe m44 and m67 as paz suggested. I'm not really sure how long it will take me to find any of these but I'm gonna have a go.
