Sky Watcher Multi-Function Mount and a PC

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,
I have been trawling through the internet looking for a fix, but I am stumped.
I have purchased a Sky Watcher Multi-Function Mount for my DSLR (it is an ALT/ AZ mount) it came with a itty bitty hand control. The specs on the site I purchased the mount from indicated it would take the larger SynScan controllers too, but I thought surely this will connect to my laptop and enable me to use a program like Stellarium or CdC to control the mount.... I am thinking however this is a tricky task. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this or if I can do this at all?
Thanks so much for any help that can be offered

Kristy.

Hi Kpat,

from the pictures I have seen, it comes with the sysscan hand controller, therefore to control the mount from your pc, you would need a cable which connects to the hand controller (serial) and a USB to serial interface...

Hi, yeah I have the cable, well I made the cable to the specifications set out by sky watcher, but I can't get stellarium to speak to the mount... And I am not sure where to look to find the correct settings etc. I guess I am at a total loss here :(

I have connected Stellarium to the mount on Windows using an app called StellariumScope. Have a look at that.

Hi,

I really feel like I am asking to be spoon fed, but what ASCOM driver did you use with StellariumScope to connect the mount?

Thank you so much for the help everyone!

The multi function mount should connect to Stellarium without the need for Stellariumscope if you use the internal Synscan AZ goto driver. For CdC the Celestron Nexstar 5 ascom driver is the one to install, remembering to select the mount as alt-az when you configure the mount in CdC.
