Visual observing with an original 6" f8 Newtonian

To show the kids (and other interested amateurs) what things were like when I started back in the early 60's I've re-build my original 6" f8 (Wildey mirror).

What I'd really like to be able to do is to demonstrate the views with the original eyepieces v's todays eyepieces.

The eyepieces I had were from Charles Frank in Glasgow. The favourite was a 1.25" fitting, 1/2" Ramsden in a solid brass body.

I've already posted a "Wanted" ad for one of these, but if anyone knows where a similar eyepiece can be found - let me know.

I think it will be very interesting to see the reactions from observers.

I know of one good place to try here in the US - AstroMart:

http://www.astromart.com/

They have a classified section (huge) where one can place a Wanted post. But it cost a little money to join. This to keep the riff-raff out. Members rate each other's for service and accuracy, so people are quite alright to deal with. Finding out about how it will work for an Aussie will be interesting to hear about. But they have lots of readers and active sellers, so you may hit gold. I've sold and bought many items through them. Never had any problems at all. And that scope must be great fun! I remember them from those days.

Good Hunting!

Dave
