Hello and welcome (from an ex-Surrey chap; born in Ashtead near Leatherhead but now living in the middle of blinking nowhere!!!)

Remember, you don't always need a big telescope to see very far objects; you can see M31 (the Andromeda galaxy) with the naked eye, and that's about 2.5 million light years away! (Mind you, that is pretty local on the universal scale of things).
