Measuring Alt & Az on the tripod...

Recommended Posts

You don't need an EQ mount for Alt-Az setting circles....

The Meade does not have markings on the tripod, although it may be possible to add some DIY ones yourself.

A Wixey gauge would give you Alt, although it is quite expensive relative to the price of the scope.

Best bet is a star map or phone app and learn to star hop

I have seen a website where you can print RA/Dec setting circles. I think the site owner asks for a small donation/fee for their use.

Another idea maybe 2x 360deg protractors attached to the 'scope & mount, though I don't know what would be the best method of attaching them.

Looking at the tripod/mount it will not have and positional marks.

Just looks like no where to actually put any and there is nothing at all on the Alt aspect.

Think Meade are aiming it at the point and find market although the scope looks like it will be great fun to use and see anything through.

You have got to drop a 10mm eyepiece in and tell us what Jupiter looks like.

Would also like to know what M42 is like.

There's a Kettering in OH?

OK... Brown Dwarf...

Thanks, Big Sumorian...

I actually have thought about using protractors Philip...

Well, ronin, it'll have to be a 12mm but I will look at them and report back :-)

Would give 50x and that should show up the main banding and the 4 moons.

I've been trying to figure that out...

How did you know the magnification from the mm of the objective??
