Solar viewing

Hope this is not a stupid question, but how do I find the sun in my telescope witout blinding myself. i have had one go but to no avail.

By the way i do have a sun filter attached.

You can try projecting the shadow of the scope until it's as small as poss' or buy or make Sol Searcher, surprising how hard it is to find the Sun

if you are trying to use some form of automation, most goto's won't let you, because of safety. So either use something like Stellarium \ Carte du Ceil or pick a star\planet  that you know is close to where the sun is & then manually slew over.

another method (assuming you have the film on the objective) is to pan around with no eyepiece in. this allows you to find at zero magnification (sort of) and when the mirror lights up you are i the right spot.
