Wow, a beautiful and fascinating timelapse, thanks for posting this :)

As a Solar near-ignoramus (bear with me) I assume the relative inactivity of the polar regions is due to (centrifugal?) rotation? I imagined that activity would be across the whole disc of the Sun, but not so it seems...

Thanks for this link, I saw it on the BBC this morning over breakfast :) :) :)

Ghostdance there are two active region belts on the sun, one in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern. When the cycle starts this active region belt follows along the 25-30 degree line of latitude and as the cycle progresses gradually they both migrate towards the equator.
