Garethr
Here's my first attempt at M42 that is reasonable. It's a single light played around with as stacking seems to cause more problems than my abilities can deal with. Also PC has now broke down so no imaging till its repaired Comments please would be appreciatedTaken with un modded 1100d on sw200p tracking but not guided. 30 sec at ISO
Davey-T
Good start, need shorter exposures for the bright core then combine them and a bit of colour balancing.Dave
michael.h.f.wilkinson
Good start. Some background reduction would improve it.

Garethr
Dave. I took 25 ish lights, 10 darks and when I stack using best 80% I get an error message in dss or an unusable image that has no data. It's my input I'm sure. Using default settings and all the lights are of similar quality no trailing ect. Not sure where I'm going wrong but as I sId pc has given up the ghost pc world just left a message saying it's not repairable so back to the supplier as its only 3 months since I brought it refurbished. Hey ho all data lost.
jimbo747
pc world are the halfords of IT - utterly useless and not to be trusted.Whats the problem with the pc? The harddrive or ssd will need to be completely fried for data to be irretrievable. Even on a damaged hd pcb i can still recover data by buying an identical drive and transplanting the parts i need. Shame you're not in derbyshire otherwise id have taken a look for you.
Garethr
PC won't even start crashes on power up. Can't even get into safe mode as it won't accept keyboard inputs:( will find out tomorrow what's broken but suspect the supplier will just send another refurbished PC instead of mucking about with changing hard drives and such like. At least it's only a few lights of orion that I will loose. Trying to guide using my work laptop in desperation the other night but kept getting error star has not moved enough so still on this vertical learning curve that's DSO imaging
Garethr
Jimbo,Thanks for the offer it's appreciated and I think your bang on with your thoughts about PC world but I need an independent view as to whats wrong with PC . Now can go back to supplier and ask for refund/replacement.

Davey-T
Try setting the calibration steps in PHD to extremes really low and if still says star didn't move try setting it really high, this is only because I can't remember which way fixes the problem Dave
